Myths & Misconception in Diet and Exercise
Burning Fat with aerobics doesn't work!

The myth: The more aerobic exercise you do, the more fat you burn.

Why doesn’t burning fat with aerobic exercise work?

People think “aerobic” means exercise. It’s the wrong assumption. It means that you are able to meet momentary oxygen demands.

So, you are in an aerobic state when you are sitting, when you are sleeping, when you are driving, etc.

When you’re in an aerobic physiological state you are able to burn fat as fuel (the body has other options of fuel too). You're able to shrink fat cells the other 23 hours of the day, not just that hour on the treadmill. That’s good news!

Is aerobic exercise important?

Yes, to an extent it does burn fat and calories.

People’s view of it needs to switch gears. I see people doing cardiovascular as a purge or as a way to burn the calories from a large meal or junk food. People think they need to drop calories after that; they need to have more output than input. “I need to exercise to reduce the calories I ate last weekend.” We can’t sabotage our exercise through bad nutrition. Cardiovascular exercise is only one of the components of losing weight.

If hours on the treadmill isn’t the way to lose weight, how do we do it?

Your body has to be in a state where it’s capable of losing weight. You create the environment where your body naturally does this. The trick is the right nutrition by keeping sugar levels even, moderate aerobic exercise, strengthening the muscle, managing stress, and getting rest.

Don't worry. If you've failed in the past, you were just misinformed.
